ARQUE Advocaten was present for the first time this year at the international trademark conference, the Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA), which was held this year from 18 to 22 May. This was the perfect opportunity to introduce ARQUE to the international trademark community.
An interesting side effect this year was also the location of the conference: Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. A city with a special status for people of colour worldwide: it is the birthplace of one of the most prominent members of the African-American civil rights movement, Dr. Martin Luther King, the first black university in the United States was founded in Atlanta and Atlanta is considered the centre of the African-American struggle for equality. How special it was therefore that the key-note speaker was none other than Dr. King’s daughter, Dr. Bernice King. She not only spoke about the impressive legacy of her parents, but also explained the importance of intellectual property rights for the King Center.
In addition to attending interesting lectures, including on leadership skills, and meeting/catching up with numerous international colleagues, ARQUE was present at the opening of the art exhibition by Brigitte Spiegeler, a lawyer/artist who pays tribute to various historical heroes with her beautiful works of art. There was also plenty of time for fun: networking drinks at beautiful locations, the legendary party of the Indian office Chaddha & Chaddha & the unforgettable final reception in the Mercedes Benz stadium. Getting from A to B was secretly a party in itself with the electric scooters that can be found everywhere in Atlanta!
All in all, a useful, educational and above all fun experience that is worth repeating.
ARQUE will definitely be present at the next edition in San Diego next year (17 to 21 May 2025).
